Introduction to Online Radio

The radio available through the Internet is quite like broadcasting radio, allowing people to listen to various programs using their computer. The audio is streamlined and listeners are not required to download any program for listening to the program being broadcasted. Users just need to log onto a particular website for listening to its program.

This type of communication is also referred to as webcasting, different from podcasting, which necessarily needs to be downloaded on your computer or an MP3 player for listening to it. The program is passed over to the network, while the listeners would experience a time lag of up to ten seconds, as per the specifications of the server employed for the purpose. The reason for the time lag is the fact that the data is passed over to a TCP/IP (Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol) connection, and subsequently reassembled ahead of the user listening to it.

There are quite a few Internet broadcasts produced by already available broadcasting stations, which share their programs with the users of the Internet as well. They may broadcast the program simultaneously to their live broadcast, or make changes to it. The listeners get the facility of getting news and music as long as they can access the net.

When you like patronizing the Internet radio, you should have a broadband connection with a large bandwidth. Having a broadband connection carries the advantage of being online at all times, rather than dialing as and when you wish to avail this service.

Additionally, you’ll require some streaming radio software for listening to the broadcasts through the Internet. You could use Windows Media Player® for this purpose. Once the URL of the radio station that interests you is known, you may just copy and paste it, or type that into the ‘open’ box of the program in order to tune into the station and start playing.

The lifestyle of people in today’s world is very busy, causing a lot of stress. They are so occupied with their job that they hardly have time for relaxing or indulging in any hobbies or activities that they enjoy. Many are bored and have a listless life. Online radio makes a good proposition to these people, who can relax for sometime at least. Workers at workplace and businesses too can enjoy listening to radio programs while working on their computers.

Under this scenario, even if the workers distort the job at hand, they have the satisfaction of having listened to their favorite music. During their free time, even students could listen to their preferred radio program and thus reduce the school related stress. While researching on any given topic, they can simultaneously listen to an online radio station of their choice. When having their personal USB radio tuner, others may also listen to their preferred online radio station even when shopping at any department store, and never miss the program that they love.
